~ B2 Game Recap - Game 1 - 03/13/06 vs Fire Ant Ball Smashers- 7/6 Win

Quack Attack is Back.....

Ah yes the moment we all love....a new season....a fresh rink.... and some new faces in the locker room. D5's B2 has reshaped slightly in the offseason. D5 lost forwards Jason Ferreira and Matt Gould and goaltender Chris Dragotta. Head coach Gordon Bombay and GM Hans looked to the past for inspiration for this seasons signings and signed forward PJ Corrales and goaltender Mike Rinaldi. All true D5 fans these two were on the Fall 2003 B1 championship team. In addition D5 signed Rinaldi's cousin Dan to play forward.

With the fresh faces in uniform D5 set out for their first game versus (combination of two of last seasons teams: Ball Smashers & Fireants) the Fireant Ball Smashers. D5 started the night off with a goal by defenseman Dan Mokrycki. The Fireants countered but Dan Mokrycki added his second of the night and season to give D5 the 2-1 lead. D5 got up by two on a rebound goal by Steve Gould (subbing in). Fireants got the lead back to one soon after. Strong goaltending by new D5 goaltender Mike Rinaldi allowed D5 to score twice more before the end of the period (goals by Dan Gould and Erich Harger). D5 entered the half with a 5-2 lead.

The second period didn't start out as well for D5. Resting too strongly on their lead and clutch goaltending, D5 allowed the Fireants to tie the game as they scored the next three. D5 fought back as new comer Dan scored his D5 goal to regain the lead. The fireants we not done yet though as they scored on a nice give and go to knot the game at 6's. The game looked like it was headed to a dramatic overtime finish until D5 forward Steve Gould stole a fireants breakout pass and scored with just 37 seconds left. D5 was able to hang on for the victory.

In post game news conferences D5 was very excited by the chemistry and team play that developed in the first game of the season. The "new" players made nice additions as D5 was able to pull together to win a tough game.

OF NOTE :
shots on goal- D5 (27) - Fireants (37)
-There were no penalties in the game
