~ C Game Recap - Game 1 - 12/08/05 vs Riptide - 5/2 Win

With two new freshly signed free agents in the locker room D5 looked to prepare itself for the first game of the 2005-2006 Winter C League session. For the first game D5 drew the Riptide, a tough team who last season D5 tied and beat in a one goal game. The sell out crowd was buzzing with anticipation knowing whenever these teams get together its gunna be good hockey. The crowd was also a buzz with the success of Scotty Jongebloed poster giveaway night. Fans lined for miles hoping to get there hands on a Scotty keepsake.

The game started off at a nice pace with both teams getting opportunities and both goalies making key saves.D5 opened the scoring with a deflected shot that handcuffed the Riptide goalie. Riptide answered right back with a goal from Matt Murkowicz. Later Riptide player Pat Doyle scored to put the tide up with a 2-1 lead.

Then a scary moment for all D5 fans. A point shot by D5 player Dan Gould hit D5 player Jim directly in the helmet. A collective hush could be heard in the crowd as well as gasp by all the ladies worried that Jim's model face would be damaged. Luckily there was no harm done besides possible mental damage. In a post game interview Jim noted that he didn't feel the shot saying that Dan shots like an infant.

Back to the game D5 had some catching up to do. New comer Chris Gill stepped up to the plate and buried the next goal for D5. After some outstanding play at both ends with both goalies keeping the game even D5 finally broke ahead on a nice passing play from Steve Gould to Matt Gould. Clinging to a one goal lead Scotty, D5 goalie, made many saves keeping his team in the lead. Steve Gould then scored the insurance goal on a hesitation move that caught Riptide goalie Jon Graney off guard. With under a minute left Matt Gould scored again to seal the deal.

It was a good start to the D5 season. Beating a strong Riptide team is never any easy task.
D5 Goalie Scotty Jongebloed finished with 20 saves while Riptide Goalie Jon Graney made 29.
